A day at

Mosaic.

It’s one thing to describe a school and another to picture your child inside it. A day at Mosaic is designed to feel calm, purposeful, active, and connected — filled with the small moments that help a child know they belong.

Morning Launch

Every day begins with Morning Launch. Scholars are greeted by name and welcomed into a calm, predictable start. Together, they connect with their studio community, build relationships and character, think and talk together, and prepare for the learning ahead. Before the first learning block begins, every child has been seen and welcomed.

Focused learning blocks

A significant part of the day is protected for focused instruction in reading, writing, and math. Scholars are taught essential knowledge and skills clearly and intentionally, with high expectations for what every child can learn and do. Throughout the block, scholars may learn together as a larger group, work with a teacher in a smaller group, collaborate with classmates, or practice independently. Because educators work as a team, they can provide additional support when a child needs it and greater challenge when a scholar is ready to go deeper.

Learning in Action

This is where scholars have opportunities to put their learning to work. They might investigate a meaningful question, design a solution, create something useful, build, experiment, or share what they have learned with others. Teachers guide the work while scholars draw on the knowledge and skills they are building throughout the day. It is a time to make connections, solve problems, think creatively, and use learning with purpose.

Movement, play, and wellness

Children are not designed to sit still all day, and neither is a Mosaic day. Scholars have time to move, play, build, and recharge. Especially in the early years, movement and play help children develop focus, friendships, confidence, and important physical and social skills. At Mosaic, caring for the whole child is part of the learning day.

Collaboration and community

Throughout the day, scholars learn alongside one another — sharing ideas, solving problems together, taking responsibility, and learning how to be part of a community. These are everyday opportunities to practice the character we hope defines Mosaic: showing kindness, acting with purpose, speaking up for what is right, and understanding that our choices affect others.

Independent work and reflection

Scholars also have opportunities throughout the day to work independently, build focus, and take increasing ownership of their learning. At the end of the day, the studio comes back together for reflection and community — a chance to think about what was learned, recognize growth, appreciate one another, and look ahead to tomorrow.

Learning Studios

Learning in a studio, together for two years.

With the exception of Kindergarten, scholars learn in multiage studios that bring two neighboring grade levels together, such as 1st and 2nd grade, with the goal of remaining with their studio community for two years.

Over time, relationships deepen and educators come to know each child’s strengths, growth, and needs more fully. Scholars are grouped and regrouped throughout their learning based on what they are working on and the support or challenge they need.
